The Accredia Single Accreditation Body is the body appointed by the Italian government to certify the competence, independence and impartiality of bodies and laboratories that verify the conformity of goods and services to standards.
Each European country has its own Single Accreditation Body, which operates in line with EC Regulation 765/2008 and international standard ISO/IEC 17011. Accredia is the body designated by the Italian government.
Accreditation certifies the competence, independence and impartiality of certification, inspection and verification bodies, and of testing and calibration laboratories, and ensures their suitability to assess the conformity of goods and services to the requirements established by voluntary and mandatory standards.
Accredia is a recognised non-profit association operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Economic Development, the national accreditation authority.
Its activity is divided into three departments – Certification and Inspection, Testing Laboratories, Calibration Laboratories – and is expressed in constant and rigorous surveillance of the behaviour of accredited bodies and laboratories.
Accredia’s role
As an authority super partes, the Accreditation Body guarantees the reliability of the services provided by bodies and laboratories, and performs a service in the public interest.
As an independent third party, Accredia ensures compliance with standards by accredited bodies and laboratories and the reliability of the certificates of conformity they issue on the market, performing a service to protect the health and safety of people and the environment.
The use by institutions, companies and consumers of conformity assessment services such as accredited certifications, inspections, verifications, tests and calibrations, contributes to the confidence that safe and quality goods and services are circulating on the market.
